A home for desired homewares

It’s in our nature to respond to brand stories. Customers today – and back in 2013 – have an appreciation for authentic narrative.

Enter Telegram, a retailer who cares about quality products and their providence. Telegram stocks a curated range of homewares whose story is as much part of the purchase as the product itself.

Approach

I was delighted to work with Telegram on their eCommerce showcase site. Their willingness to be steer away from the ‘hard sell’ and incorporate a content marketing aspect was refreshing. And they truly loved their products.

I set about designing the wireframes with the premise that their customers appreciate quality products. That being so, the site should be a very light frame around them. Customers can browse the store by Room, Brand or Department – meaning catalogue items are pulled in based on the changing taxonomy. On the content side, the inspiration area was set up as a series of image-driven articles to aspire and whet the appetite for delicious homewares.

Output

Working with the beautiful rustic product shots are a designer’s dream, so removing everything except a small label meant the product could shine. Taking on the nav, I created a large block with considered typography giving a sense of air and space. We used Magento as the backbone and it provided unfettered freedom in imagining the interaction design.

The site remained true to the idea of simplicity and enjoyed many visitors – delighting the designer in everyone.
